Free WiFi Bundle Coming to New York?
Customers of Comcast, Cablevision, and Time Warner Cable can expect a free wifi bundle as part of their high speed broadband services. The cable companies have already developed their own networks of public wifi hotspots, however the companies have now combined their wifi hotspots so that all of their customers have city wide free wifi for use on their laptops while mobile. Customers of all three cable companies will be able to freely roam on the combined public wifi network throughout the New York metropolitan area including parts of New Jersey. No word yet on timing and service availability of the free wifi bundles that will likely be offered with the cable companies fixed broadband services.
AT&T Upgrades Vermont Mobile Broadband

Vermont Gets Lit Up With 3G Mobile Broadband
AT&T continues to make upgrades to its’ 3G mobile broadband network. AT&T customers in Bennington, Brattleboro, Brownsville, Killington, Vernon, and Warren will go live this week on a rolling basis. More cities throughout the Vermont state area will be upgraded by December 31st, with the remainder of the state being upgraded during 2010. Full press release.
TeliaSonera Launches LTE Mobile Broadband Laptop Service
TeliaSonera Rolls Out LTE Broadband For Laptops in Stockholm & Oslo

TeliaSonera teamed with Samsung to offer consumers LTE mobile broadband for laptops using a Samsung 4G USB modem. Mobile broadband laptop users in Stockholm (Sweden) and Oslo (Norway) can now sign up for mobile broadband service for $84 dollars per month, for 30 GB data at data rates up to 80 Mbps (megabits per second). TeliaSonera is believed to be the first wireless provider in the world to deploy LTE (Long Term Evolution), which is 4G wireless broadband. Expect TeliaSonera to deploy LTE in 3 more cities in Norway, and 25 more cities in Sweden during the 2010 fiscal year. It isn’t clear is consumers must buy the Samsung USB modem, or if it comes free with mobile broadband laptop service.
UPDATE: Stacey Higginbotham at GigaOM is reporting that TeliaSonera is offering introductory LTE prices of less than $1 per month!
Comcast DOCSIS High Speed Broadband
Comcast Offers Businesses 100 Mbps Internet Service

Businesses in Minneapolis and St. Paul can now choose what is certainly one of the fastests broadband laptop services in the United States. Comcast’s DOCSIS 3.0 technology delivers 100 megabits per second (Mbps) downloads, and 15 Mbps uploads using fiber optic networks. The technology is called “wideband”, and it will enable Comcast to deliver progressively faster speed advances well into the future. The offer also bundles Microsoft’s Communication Services and McAfee Security Suite at no extra cost. The value of the bundle is $500 for Microsoft’s services, and $280 for the McAfee Security Suite.
Gigaom reported that the broadband service will cost businesses $369.95 per month.
Verizon Rolls Out World Modem

Verizon Wireless is now offering a 3g broadband modem that works in the United States as well as the rest of the world. The AD3700 is a USB mobile broadband modem that is made by ZTE that works on EVDO, HSPA, and UMTS networks. Verizon Wireless operates a 3G EVDO network for its’ mobile broadband offerings. Verizon has combined their connection management software with the AD3700 so that it detects the fastest available service at any given time.
Qwest Offering $100 Off A Dell Mini Laptop

Qwest is now offering $100 off of a Dell netbook to users who sign up for Qwest’s Fiber Optic Internet Service and home phone service between now and September 30, 2009. After signing up, customers must submit a redemption form within 30 days of ordering or upgrading in order to receive the $100 Dell voucher. All Qwest broadband customers also get free Qwest WiFi services at more than 22,000 hotspots that are part of AT&T WiFi network.
Clearwire Now Live in Las Vegas

Clearwire’s WiMAX wireless broadband is now live in Las Vegas, the fourth US city with wimax capabilities joining Atlanta, Baltimore, and Portland. Clear’s service can be used with any existing laptop, or ones with embedded wimax. You can sign up at Clear.com, and choose daily, monthly, and at home broadband plans.
Verizon Bundles Free WiFi for DSL and FiOS Broadband Customers

Verizon Wireless has partnered with Boingo Wireless to offer free wifi to Verizon’s wireline broadband customers at more that 20,000 wifi hotspots throughout the United States. Verizon customers of digital subscriber line (dsl) and fios will be able to access Boingo wifi hotspots using free software available for download to wifi enabled laptops.
Sprint and Best Buy Offer Embedded Laptop for $0.99
Sprint and Best Buy have teamed up to offer the Compaq Mini 110c – 1040DX netbook with embedded mobile broadband for $0.99 with activation. You can purchase the same netbook for $389.99 without activation. This mini laptop with embedded broadband can also be purchased for $199 on AT&T or Verizon Wireless with activation. This laptop promotion is offered in Best Buy stores only.
