Quanta Netbook With Embedded Wimax Broadband

Netbook News’ uncovered a prototype Quanta netbook fashioned with embedded wimax broadband. Quanta is one of the many Taiwanese original device manufacturers (ODM), and is the company that manufacturers most of the devices that Apple offers. Device and design aestetics aside, the mini laptop manufacturers should focus their manufacturing and marketing of laptops and netbooks with embedded broadband. This should be true for 3g, wimax, and lte broadband.

Broadband Laptops Consume More Data

ABI Research released a report last week claiming that Verizon Wireless and Sprint each carried more than 16 billion more megabytes of mobile data than AT&T during 2009. This surprised many given that AT&T carries the Apple iPhone, which may be the most widely used mobile device for data. However, ABI cited wireless broadband usage by laptop customers on Verizon and Sprints 3G and 4G networks. Broadband laptops consume much greater amounts of mobile data, and Verizon and Sprint have more laptop users of mobile broadband.

ABI counted air cards, USB dongles, and embedded broadband laptops in their research. They did not however, break out wireless data consumption by laptop access.

Vermont Gets Lit Up With 3G Mobile Broadband

AT&T continues to make upgrades to its’ 3G mobile broadband network. AT&T customers in Bennington, Brattleboro, Brownsville, Killington, Vernon, and Warren will go live this week on a rolling basis. Qwest is now offering $100 off of a Dell netbook to users who sign up for Qwest’s Fiber Optic Internet Service and home phone service between now and September 30, 2009. Sony debuted the Vaio-W Series netbook family this week. The2.6 pound netbook features a 10.5 by 7.1 inch screen, with a 1366×768 high resolution screen. It is built upon an Intel 1.66 GHz Atom processor, and features two USB ports, a webcam, and the Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition operating system. Wireless capabilities include an option for 3G broadband, plus standard bluetooth and WiFi. The Sony Vaio – W netbooks will be available in August.
